The Biden administration is reportedly moving to reclassify marijuana as a lower-risk substance, acknowledging its medical benefits and impacting research and the cannabis industry. The US Department of Justice has recommended that marijuana be moved from Schedule I to Schedule III, alongside prescription drugs like ketamine and Tylenol with codeine. The reclassification process, which will include a public comment period, may take several months. Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have praised the move, with some seeing it as a step toward ending the war on drugs. Marijuana has been categorized as a Schedule I substance for over 50 years.
