Back to school means back to viruses. A doctor explains how families should prepare
It’s back-to-school time for kids across the United States. As families shop for school supplies, they should also prepare for the spread of viruses and other diseases. CNN’s wellness expert Dr. Leana Wen advises parents and caregivers to have Covid tests on hand, especially if they are eligible for antiviral treatment. It’s also important to stock up on remedies to treat respiratory illnesses. Other steps to prepare for school include visiting the pediatrician for an annual checkup, ensuring vaccinations are up to date, and addressing vision and dental health. Handwashing, masking, ventilation, sleep, nutrition, and physical activity are all important preventive measures to keep the immune system strong. Despite efforts, it is likely that kids will contract respiratory viruses during the school year, so adults should also be prepared and take preventive measures.
